NextGen 8 GHz Pulse Radar

The NextGen 8 GHz Pulse Radar is SkyRadar’s compact real-radar training platform for hands-on measurements, radar fundamentals and signal-processing exercises. It supplies real radar returns and IQ data for visualisation and processing in FreeScopes.

With 1.4 GHz transmit bandwidth, better than 11 cm range resolution, >25 m validated range and 23.3 GS/s receive sampling, it supports practical laboratory work with targets, movement and propagation.

With the NextGen 8 GHz Pulse Radar, multiple students can run their own experiments concurrently, in the laboratory or remotely—enabling true individual hands-on training at scale.

Designed for defence academies, radar-engineering laboratories, universities and technical training environments.

NextGen 8 GHz Pulse Radar for live radar measurements and hands-on signal-processing exercises in the laboratory.

Training Advantages

  • Live Radar Data — Work with physical radar returns and real IQ data instead of simulation alone.
  • High Range Resolution — Demonstrate target separation with better than 11 cm range resolution.
  • Validated Laboratory Range — Run practical measurements beyond 25 m under validated training conditions.
  • FreeScopes Integration — Visualise and process live IQ data with browser-based scopes and DSP functions.
  • Targets and Movement — Explore reflectors, target motion, Doppler effects and practical measurement conditions.
  • Real and Simulated Data — Compare live radar measurements with recorded data or SkySim-generated scenarios.

What the NextGen 8 GHz Pulse Radar Does

The NextGen 8 GHz Pulse Radar brings physical radar measurements into teaching and research laboratories. It supplies real radar returns and IQ data for visualisation, measurement and signal-processing exercises in FreeScopes.

NextGen 8 GHz Pulse Radar → FreeScopes → DSP, detection and ATC training

Its 1.4 GHz transmit bandwidth, better than 11 cm range resolution, validated range beyond 25 m and 23.3 GS/s receive sampling support practical work with targets, movement, propagation and processing.

What Trainees Do

  • Observe live pulse-radar returns
  • Measure target distance and reflectivity
  • Analyse real IQ data in FreeScopes
  • Compare raw and processed signals
  • Work with antennas, reflectors and moving targets
  • Examine propagation and Doppler effects
  • Apply DSP and detection methods
  • Compare live, recorded and simulated radar data

Main Training Scope

Radar Signal Generation

  • Pulse-radar fundamentals
  • Live radar returns and IQ data
  • Transmit bandwidth and sampling

Range, Targets and Propagation

  • Distance and reflectivity measurements
  • High-resolution target separation
  • Movement, Doppler and propagation effects

Signal Processing Integration

  • FreeScopes visualisation and DSP
  • Raw and processed signal comparison
  • Detection-oriented exercises

Where It Fits

NextGen 8 GHz Pulse Radar → CloudServer where required → FreeScopes → DSP, detection and ATC training

SkySim supplies the complementary simulated path into FreeScopes. The radar generates real measurements; FreeScopes provides the trainee analysis environment; and CloudServer supports larger classrooms where required.

Prerequisites

  • NextGen 8 GHz Pulse Radar
  • Compatible FreeScopes modules
  • CloudServer for larger classrooms where required

CloudServer is not mandatory for every minimal setup. SkySim is complementary and is not required for live radar measurements.

Who It Is For

  • Military radar academies
  • Universities and technical colleges
  • Radar-engineering laboratories
  • ATSEP and surveillance training centres
  • Instructors teaching practical radar and DSP

Learning Outcomes

After completing the exercises, trainees can explain pulse-radar measurements, interpret real IQ data, measure range and target behaviour, apply signal-processing and detection methods in FreeScopes, and distinguish live, recorded and simulated data paths.
