SkyRadar and STM deliver advanced ATSEP NAV training simulators, supporting taxonomy levels 1–5 and full ICAO 10057 and EU 2017/373 compliance.
Training today’s ATSEPs in Navigation (NAV) systems cannot be limited to classroom slides. No Pilot will obtain their qualification by reading books. — ATSEP Training requires real-time, equipment-integrated simulators that build progressive competency. In response to this need, SkyRadar and STM (Société Toulousaine de Modélisation) have partnered to offer a complete range of training simulators and development tools that support ICAO Doc 10057 and EU Regulation 2017/373—specifically across ILS, VOR, and DME systems. Thanks to simulation, in addition to the needed theory, they offer 'hands-on' sessions, equivalent to OJT, or On-the-Job Training.
SkyRadar and STM TRAIN the TRAINERS and provide a unique set of training tools. It empowers Academies, ANSPs, and military institutions to run high-quality qualification and unit training programs independently.
We also continue to offer our training services from Initial trough Equipment Rating, up to Development Training, including ‘’ENGINEERING ATSEP – INSTALLATION’’, ‘’TECHNICAL FLIGHT INSPECTOR’’, and ‘’ ATSEP INSTRUCTOR TRAINING’’. These services are delivered at our premises or on customer location,on the job and online.
FreeScopes: Establishing a Structured Technical Foundation
To support structured learning, SkyRadar’s FreeScopes Basic III and IV provide foundational labs that move learners from basic understanding to applied knowledge in digital signal processing and antenna systems.
FreeScopes Basic III – Signal Processing & Modulation
-
Introduces core principles such as PRF, signal discretization, modulation (AM, FM, QAM), and bandwidth.
-
Enables learners to analyze signals using spectrograms, eye diagrams, and constellation plots.
-
Lays groundwork for taxonomy level 3: the ability to apply theoretical knowledge with precision.
FreeScopes Basic IV – Antennas & Propagation
-
Focuses on practical parameters like gain, impedance, SWR, polarization, and multipath propagation.
-
Tools like the Smith Chart allow interactive impedance tuning and system understanding.
-
Supports level 4 development: the capacity to formulate actions in interconnected NAV environments.
These modules prepare students to move seamlessly into the STM simulator environment, well beyond the limitations of PowerPoint-based learning.
VTC 100® Simulator: Real-Time, Fault-Driven, and Multi-User
STM’s Virtual Training Center ® (VTC) is a single, unified simulator for ILS, C-VOR, D-VOR, and DME systems. It integrates signal flow analysis, fault simulation, remote/local operation control, and realistic scenarios covering:
-
Transmission chains: Dual Transmitter, RF Cables, Antennas, Probe, Distribution and Recombine units, Monitors, and up to the Change Over Unit.
-
Transmission segment : Radiated signal patterns, CSB and SBO phasing, and so forth up to on-board receiver artefact and multipath,
-
Conventional Ground testing and flight inspection procedures and advanced and innovative procedures, e.g., Glidepath ground Phasing. All in all, allowing the capabilities to develop and qualify ATSEP to the Ground-Air Correlation Method to REDUCE flight inspection cost and CO2 footprint drastically by at least 50% with no additional hardware.
Key Competitive Features
-
Real-time failure injection: The instructor can discreetly introduce failures or misalignments while the system reacts instantly through simulated monitoring logic.
-
Parallel student work: Multiple learners can engage in concurrent, independent sessions—ideal for scalable academy deployment or in collaborative exercises
-
Training sessions in classrooms, distance learning designs or mixed
-
Simulator student toolkit: Includes measurement tools (vector voltmeter, wattmeter, dummy loads, etc.) and a powerful simulation engine for signal analysis.
This setup enables learners to not only apply and adapt their knowledge (taxonomy levels 3–4), but also to analyze and resolve unfamiliar failure scenarios (level 5)—a standard unmatched by any training competitors.
Unit Training with Hardware-Level Integration
The VTC 300® adds a powerful layer: hardware simulation with direct integration of manufacturer-specific cabinets, including:
-
ADUs (Antenna Distribution Units)
-
RCU (Recombine Unit)
-
Changeover control units and operational switching logic
Trainees interact with real-world hardware setups and their day-to-day measuring devices, troubleshooting as they would in an operational environment. They do so without the limitations of operational equipment, such as access time to the Runway and the required flight check in case some particular adjustments are made. This supports comprehensive unit training, as required by ICAO 10057 and EU 2017/373.
Curriculum Development and Train-the-Trainer Services
Through their partnership, SkyRadar and STM do not just deliver simulators and training sessions — We enable institutions to become independent training providers. To this end, we support:
-
Train-the-trainer programs for instructors
-
Curriculum development across NAV streams (ILS, VOR, DME), with, Course structures, Topics and subtopics, Training objectives per subtopic, Assigned taxonomy levels (1–5)
-
Training plans detailing timing, methods (theory, lab, simulation), and tool integration
-
Training documentation for classroom and simulator sessions
This capability is especially valuable for regulatory audits and program accreditation, as well as for harmonization across multi-site ANSP or military training programs.
Scalable and Globally Connected
Thanks to STM’s real-time multi-user engine and SkyRadar’s modular architecture, institutions can operate:
-
On-site labs
-
Distance training via secure internet
-
Fully synchronized, collaborative exercises across academies, maintenance centers, and flight inspection units
This scalability ensures your investment in training infrastructure is future-proof and ready to support large-scale institutional development.
NAC® and MMC®: Operational Tools for Inspection and Maintenance
While the simulator environment focuses on training, SkyRadar and STM also support operational needs through two advanced systems:
-
NAC® (Navaids Acquisition Center): A professional platform for real-time data acquisition during ground check and flight inspections. A unique tool suite which captures Navaid signals, and also offers CSB/SBO vector analysis, course and clearance analysis, multipath analysis, Antenna Radiation pattern analysis, and validates the radiated signal from ground or airborne assets.
-
MMC® (Maintenance Management Center): Designed for live NAVAIDS maintenance environments, MMC centralizes fault logs, signal monitoring records, and environmental data. It supports scheduled and predictive maintenance planning, contributing to higher system reliability and compliance. A complete package to streamline the maintenance Procedure and Checklist Development, Quality Track Record through daily checklist assessment, ground-air correlation, and much more.
These operational tools extend SkyRadar and STM’s offering beyond the training facility—directly into field operations, ensuring continuity from simulation to service.
