SkyRadar Modular Radar Training System
SkyRadar’s modular radar training system is a cost effective, close-range and high resolution radar suite with CW, Pulse, FMCW, FSK, MTI/MTD and SAR modes (and many more). FreeScopes is SkyRadar’S freely available online and offline Radar visualization and control software, including A-Scopes, B-Scopes, PPI-Scopes and more. SkyRadar FreeScopes allows for a large variety of manipulations on Q and I radar data, like STC filtering, Amplification, Doppler mode etc. When in reach of a SkyRadar radar module, it can measure in real-time.
The base unit of the SkyRadar Modular Radar Training System provides a fully operational close range radar. It is operatable in CW, Doppler and Pulse mode. The system operates with the SkyRadar FreeScopes Software. Most of SkyRadar’s systems build on this base unit. Watch the video to see the base unit with its extensions.
To allow for 360° (endless) PPI rotation, swivel modes or target tracking, SkyRadar provides a rotary tripod, equipped with a slip ring for electrical transmission and powered by a DC Motor. The unit also includes a compass.
A stainless steel parabolic reflector calibrated and optimized. The reflector is placed on a variable mounting with adjustable slope angle. It allows for focussed and more distant radar monitoring. Learners get an hands-on introduction into the reflection and focusing of radar beams.
The SkyRadar Cloud Server operates as relay server, routing data messages between one or several radar devices and the clients who access the radars through the SkyRadar FreeScopes Software. The sever allows to connect the radar systems to university or academy networks and even to learning management systems.

The ADS-B module operates with real life air traffic data, providing an understanding of real-life data, visualized through an oscilloscope or an unlimited number of concurrent PCs through the comfortable FreeScopes Software. SkyRadar Target Tracker is a fully automated target tracking device. Applying the Moving Target Detection (MTD) and Moving Target Indication (MTI) algorithms, it discriminates targets against clutter. Indicated targets are automatically tracked. For this, the radar antenna works in pivoting mode.
The Security Module comprises of a hardware based target generator, which is able to create ghost targets. It is connected to a PC, where the SkyRadar Security Software generates disturbances and ghost targets. Supported by a configurator software, it serves as hardware jammer to create disturbances.
The FMCW base operates with an Phased Array antenna and provides applications as FMCW mode, Doppler, Frequency Shift Keying etc. The corresponding FMCW Base software allows for comfortable control of the system, providing multiple ways of visualization such as FMCW Fast Fourier Transform, Doppler, IF Signals or the VCO Ramp.
The SAR Module is an extension of the FMCW base. A servo-controlled linear axis allows movement of the antenna and thus produces radar images with defined time-stamps and positions for SAR operations. SAR aggregates the data in a time-multiplex approach. SAR allows producing resolutions which go far beyond results of a normal antenna.
For indoor and outside experiments the chain-driven remote controlled moveable device for inside applications is able to move freely in the laboratory without any of the limitations of a target table or a rail system. It is part of SkyRadar’s Radar Training System.
Designed for marine and navy oriented users, this vessel allows for outside experiments, working under real life conditions. The vessels vary on availability but have an approximate size of L x W x H approx.1100 x 250 x 500 mm. It is part of SkyRadar’s modular Radar Training System.
For Air-traffic-control or homeland-security-oriented users, SkyRadar suggest a blend of in-house and outside experiments. For the outside experiments, SkyRadar offers a remote quadcopter model as part of SkyRadar’s Modular Radar Training System.
The Phased Array Beam Controller of SkyRadar consists of an array of four individual antennas, each of which is equipped with a phase shifter, controllable through an adjustable control voltage through a comfortable computer-based Graphical User Interface.
